Abstract

999,832. Collapsible trays. BOWATER RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. Ltd. Feb. 28, 1964 [March 29, 1963], No. 12556/63. Heading B8P. A cardboard blank (Fig. 1) is formed into a collapsible tray by folding flaps 9-12 down and beneath side walls 1-4, about score line 13, folding the outer side walls 1, 4 with their flaps 9, 12 inwardly under the walls 2, 3 and securing a glue tab 8 to wall 1 and gussets 22, 24 to the underlying surfaces of flaps 10, 12 respectively. To erect the tray, walls 2, 3 are drawn away from walls 1, 4, the structure bending about score lines 6 and 8a. The flaps are pulled down from the side walls to form the base. As the blank is opened out, partition members 14, 16 engage apertures 35, 34 in flaps 12, 10 forcing the remaining partition members into contact. Flanges 36-39 are folded inwardly about score line 40. In a second embodiment, a sixcompartment tray is formed by providing meridian slits in the partition members 14, 16 to engage the members 15, 17 midway between their ends. The top of the tray may be covered by a sheet of transparent material secured to the outside of the tray.
