Abstract
999,500. Axial-flow fans. MATCHWELL ELECTRICALS (INDIA) Ltd. May 8, 1964, No. 19245/64. Heading F1C. [Also in Division H2] In an A.C. ceiling fan with upper and lower ball bearings, an inner stator with a spindle and an outer rotor, the outer bearing races are fitted rigidly in their housings, the inner race of the upper bearing is firmly held on the spindle, and the inner race of the lower bearing is slidably fitted on the spindle and axially loaded to take up play in the bearings and thereby reduce bearing noise. A stationary spindle 1 carrying the stator 2 of the electric driving motor is supported in two ball bearings. The inner race of the upper bearing is press-fitted to the spindle or is secured to it by a nut 27 and sleeve 26, and the inner race of the lower bearing is axially slidable on the spindle, a compression spring 12 and a sleeve 13 being interposed to axially pre-load the bearings. In alternative embodiments the sleeve 13 is omitted or provided with a collar at its upper end, or the spring 12 is replaced by corrugated spring washers alternating with plain washers, or by a resilient compressible material such as rubber separated from the sleeve 13 by a plain washer.
