Abstract

909,550. Mounting rotors in dynamo-electric machines. MOSER, H. Dec. 12, 1960 [Dec. 14, 1959], No. 42652/60. Class 35. [Also in Group XXVI] Forced lubrication to reduce wear on the journal and thrust bearing surfaces 11, 12 and 15, 16 of a glandless, centrifugal pump is ensured by connecting the high to the low pressure side of the pump through the pairs of bearing surfaces arranged in series. Any tendency for axial movement of the hollow shaft 6a caused by gravitational or electrical forces is compensated by preselection of suitable bearing diameters D 1 , D 2 . The fixed and rotatable parts of the bearings may be either inside or outside each other (Figs. 3-6, not shown). As shown in Fig. 7, the journal bearings may have an annular groove 22 and hole 23 to relieve pressure on the bearing surfaces. The invention may be applied to pumps having a multi-stage, seriesflow impeller (Figs. 8, 9, not shown). The bearing surfaces may be of carbon and nickel steel respectively.
