998,383. Liquid fuel burners. K. O. A. BOIJ, and B. K. A. JOHANSSON. Jan. 24, 1962 [Jan. 24, 1961], No. 2671/62. Heading F4T. A liquid fuel burner for a portable camping stove comprises a container 10 filled with fuel impregnated absorbent material through which is formed a vertical passage 16 between flanged apertures 11 and 13 in the container, a flame tube 20 being fitted in aperture 13. The filling 15 is in the form of two layers of diabase mineral wool sandwiching an annular disc 17 of mineral down, acting as a wick leading fuel from the impregnated absorbent to the passage 16. Access of combustion air to the passage 16 is controlled by a damper 28 mounted on a lever 29 pivoted at 30 and operated by a finger-piece 31 outside the stove casing. Air is supplied to the passage 16 through rectangular ducts 32 and 26 in the stove casing 21 from a duct 33 mounted on a wind shield 34 which is hinged to the stove at 35. Air enters the duct 33 through openings 38 and 39 in the wind shield and ducts respectively, an inclined baffle plate 40 preventing air from passing directly across the duct. Secondary air is supplied to the burner flame through an opening 25 in a hinged lid 23 of the stove from apertures, Fig. 1 (not shown), in the stove casing 21. Lateral sheet metal wind shields 37 are provided. The burner is extinguished by applying a cap to the flame tube 20, any condensate being absorbed by an asbestos sheet 43 in duct 26. To refill the fuel container 10 it is removed from the stove and inverted, Fig. 3 (not shown), and a funnel inserted in a pipe 19 leading from passage 16 towards a metal gauge 18 at the top of the container which aids distribution of the fuel to the absorbent 15.
