Abstract
997,244. Thread conveying apparatus. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. Jan. 15, 1963 [March 1, 1962], No. 1839/63. Heading B5B. [Also in Division D1] Thread - conveying apparatus includes a tube with means for introducing a gas stream near the inlet of the tube and directed towards its outlet, the gas being introduced at a plurality of locations spaced along the length of the tube. The tube is preferably flared towards its outlet. The invention has particular application in the lacing-up of machines for the production of acrylonitrile thread, when thread may be moved vertically through the tube over a distance of about eight feet. In the form shown an aspirator 14 is provided with a flared inlet 25 and is attached to a tube 13 that is gently flared towards its outlet. Compressed air enters the aspirator 14 through tubes 22, 23, a distributer 20 and valve 19. The latter may be actuated from upper or lower positions using handles 32, 34 on control rods 31, 33. At the beginning of the operation thread is collected in an air-pervious container 38. A modified form (Figs. 4, and 5, not shown) has means for introducing compressed air from passages uniformly spaced around the bore of the aspirator and also longitudinally spaced. Separate valve control rods are dispensed with.
