Abstract

1306808 Conveying threads pneumatically TURNER BROS ASBESTOS CO Ltd 22 Dec 1970 [22 Dec 1969] 62246/69 Heading D1F In a method of pneumatically conveying a thread, the thread 1 is presented to the inlet end of a pneumatic conveying tube 4, and discharged into an expansion chamber 5 where it is engaged between rotating nip rollers which form the bottom wall of the chamber 5, suction being applied to an outlet 6 at the upper end of the chamber 5. The inlet end of the tube 4 is provided in the form of a fish tail nozzle to ensure entrainment of the thread 1 which is preferably fed via belts 2. The tube 4 terminates within the chamber 5 such that the air and thread strikes a wall of the chamber and is deflected thereby. The thread is delivered by the nip rollers for packaging. In a preferred embodiment, several tubes 4 terminate within a single expansion chamber 5, the tubes being separated by partitions which do not extend to the top of the chamber whereby a communicating air space is maintained. The thread 1 is advantageously an asbestos sliver.
