Abstract

1379833 Drying of wet powder particles KUREHA KAGAKU KOGYO KK 18 Aug 1972 [18 Aug 1971] 38588/72 Heading F4G Particles (including agglomerated masses) of synthetic polymer are fed at 4 into a vertical cylinder 3 having a conical section 1 provided with an inlet 2 for hot high speed gas, and are thereby broken up and dried, and then conveyed via tube 5 to a cyclone separator 6. The crosssectional area of the cylinder 3 is from 10 to 100 times that of the inlet 2, the vertex angle of the conical section 1 is from 50 to 70 degrees, and the total length of the cylinder 3 is at least 0À05 v + 3 metres where v is the speed in metres/sec. of the gas at the inlet 2. The temperature of the hot gas is from 70‹ to 200‹ C. and its speed is from 40 to 150 metres/sec. The speed of the gas in the cylinder is from 1À5 to 5À0 metres/sec. The length of cylinder between the inlet 4 and outlet end of the cylinder is at least 3 metres, and the inlet 4 should be at a distance from the inlet 2 between 1/2 and 1/20 of the cylinder diameter but not greater than 1/10 of the cylinder length. Examples are described.
