Abstract

A composition comprises from 10 to 50% by weight of a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate which copolymer contains at least 10% by weight of vinyl acetate units, and from 90 to 50% by weight of an amide or an N-substituted amide of a fatty acid, which fatty acid contains at least 12 carbon atoms. The composition may also contain an antioxidant (butylated hydroxy toluene) and a corrosion inhibitor (tannin). The composition is a solid lubricant for metal structures.ALSO:A solid lubricant for metal structures comprises a composition containing from 10 to 50% by weight of a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate which copolymer contains at least 10% by weight of vinyl acetate units and from 90 to 50% by weight of an amide or N-substituted amide of a fatty acid which fatty acid contains at least 12 carbon atoms. Antioxidants, such as butylated hydroxytoluene, and corrosion inhibitors, such as tannin, may also be added.
