Abstract

A gasoline composition contains an aliphatic hydroxy primary amine of formula: <FORM:0795751/III/1> where R is an alkyl radical having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, n is zero or one, and R1 is hydrogen or R, the total number of carbon atoms in the compound being not less than 4 and not more than 9. The hydroxy amine may be 2-methyl-2 -amino - 1 - propanol, 2 - ethyl - 2 - amino - 1 - propanol, 3 - methyl - 3 amino - 2 - butanol, 2,3 - dimethyl - 3 - amino - 2 - butanol, 3 -methyl - 3 - amino - 1 - butanol, 2,4 - dimethyl - 4 - amino - 2 - pentanol, or 2,4,4 - trimethyl - 2 - amino-1-pentanol. The composition may contain 0.015 to 0.4 per cent by volume of the hydroxy amine, and may also contain tetraethyl lead. Examples of compositions are given.
