Abstract

996,321. Fuel-injection pumps. C.A.V. Ltd. March 15,1963 [March 29, 1962], No. 12044/62. Headings F1A and F1B. In a fuel injection pump comprising a piston 12 having a control groove 17 and angularly adjusted by a sleeve 19 having helical teeth engaged by a helically toothed rod 22, e.g. connected to a governor, sleeve 19 is spring- loaded into its excess delivery position for starting and has a piston face 32 at its upper end. The space 33 above the sleeve is connected to a cylinder groove 34 above a leakage groove 18. When the engine is running, leakage past piston 12 enters space 33 and moves sleeve 19 downwardly to its normal setting, as determined by rod 22. When the engine is stopped, the fuel in space 33 leaks into groove 18 and back to the pump inlet under the action of spring 31, so that sleeve 19 rises to its excess delivery position for starting. An adjustable stop is provided to determine the maximum delivery position of rod 22.
