Abstract

995,238. Valves; pipe couplings. S. E. GILL. Sept. 29, 1961 [Oct. 1, 1960], No. 33780/60. Headings F2G and F2V. A valve comprises a housing formed from two body members 1, 2, Fig. 1, which are connected together by an annular ring 12 to allow relative rotation between the three parts. The ring 12 is formed from two blocks a, Fig. 7, which are joined by soldering, for example, and then machined to provide groove and flanges 11, 25 and a thread 26. The blocks are then separated to connect the body parts. A knurled sleeve 27 is forced over the ring 12. The body parts may have hexagonal portions to fix the valve in a pipe-line. As shown, rotation of the ring 12 actuates a valve spindle 14 which is prevented from rotation, having a conical closure 15 and a through bore 19, 20. A second closure may be formed on the other end of the spindle. In a modification, rotation of the ring 12 moves a member axially to adjust the loading on a ball closure member.
