Abstract
1,017,262. Pipe couplings. DAMIC CONTROLS Ltd. Oct. 29, 1964 [Oct. 30, 1963], No. 42877/63. Heading F2G. A self-sealing coupling comprises a part 2 having an external screw-thread which is engaged by a sleeve nut 28 captive on a part 1 to draw the two parts into face-to-face contact, there being within part 1 a cylindrical bore 3 leading to a frusto-conical seating 5 against which the face 8 of a frusto-conical valve 4 is normally held by its spring 6, the part 2 carrying a sleeve valve 12 normally held by its spring on to a valve face 26 on a probe 18 which it surrounds, and the sleeve valve 12 being axially displaced off the valve face 26 by the body of the part 1 when the two parts are brought together, in which position the probe 18 enters the bore of the part 1 and moves the valve 4 off its seating 5 so that fluid can flow through the coupling. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), the fluid can flow through the probe 18 which is hollow and has ports which are covered by the sleeve valve except when the two parts of the coupling are brought together.
