Abstract

1304467 Valves ENGINEERING LABORATORY EQUIPMENT Ltd 12 Oct 1971 [10 Nov 1970] 53449/70 Heading F2V In a needle valve comprising a needle 6 having a conically tapered portion 8 which extends into a conioally-tapered bore and a more steeply tapered point 19, the needle being movable axially relative to said box by rotation of a shank 11 which is in screw-threaded connection with a body 1 of the valve but being prevented from rotation, the needle is attached to the shank in such a way that the needle has a limited freedom of lateral movement relative to the shank. This is achieved by providing the needle with a head 13 which is held in a blind bore of the shank by a nut 14, the axial thrust being transmitted through a ball bearing 15. The lateral movement is limited by cylindrical bores in the nut and in sleeve 3. The conical bore is provided in sleeve 4. Rotation of the needle is prevented by the sealing ring 9 which also prevents flow between the needle and sleeve 3. The sleeve 4 is also provided with a sealing ring 5. The shank is provided with a stop 18 so that the needle does not come in contact with the bore in sleeve 4. The needle has a core tip with a greater angle of conicity than the portion 8. The sleeve 3 is provided with grooves 20 and the body with an annular chamber 21 to facilitate the even flow of fluid to the output port 22.
