Abstract

995,181. Carpet cleaning apparatus; brushes, &c. ADDIS Ltd. May 15, 1964 [June 20, 1963], No. 24578/63. Headings A4F and A4K. In a device for applying liquids to surfaces, e.g. detergents to carpets, and comprising a roller supplied with liquid from a reservoir, the liquid supply is controlled by a value which is operated automatically as the roller is rolled over a surface by means actuated by pressing the roller against the surface. In the carpet shampooing apparatus illustrated flow of detergent liquid from a reservoir 1 on to a sponge roller 10 via a perforated channel 7 is controlled by a valve operated by the engagement with the valve spindle 24 of a cam 22 at the centre of the roller 10. The spindle 24 is not engaged by the cam 22 until pressure is applied to the handle 3 of the apparatus to move the roller spindle 11 relatively to the cam 22 against spring biassing means (not shown), such relative movement being permitted by bearing slots 12 in the bosses 17 receiving the ends 13 of the spindle 11.
