Abstract

846,253. Rug-cleaning apparatus reservoir applicators. JERCLAYDON Inc. March 31, 1959, No. 10836/59. Classes 19 and 138(1). A rug cleaning apparatus comprises a foam rubber roller 41 to which a foamable cleaning liquid is supplied from a reservoir 23 via a manifold 24 having perforations 26. The lower wall 22 of the reservoir 23 has a portion 36 shaped to conform with the surface of the roller 41 and provided with longitudinal ribs 37 which assist the generation of foam as the roller 41 is rotated. Polyethylene brushes 60 are provided on each side of the roller 41 for brushing the foam into the nap of the rug. The flow of cleaning liquid from the reservoir 23 into the manifold 24 is controlled by a valve 29 adjustable by rotating the valve stem 28 which is screw-threaded at 31 through the wall 21 of the reservoir 23. The apparatus is provided with a handle 89 for guiding it over the rug.
