Abstract

982,216. Carpet cleaning apparatus; reservoir applicators. CHISWICK PRODUCTS Ltd. Aug. 15, 1963 [Aug. 20, 1962], No. 31960/62. Headings A4F and A4K. An appliance for cleaning carpets or the like comprises a tank 10 from which foamable cleaning liquid is supplied to brushes 14 via a duct 16 and a plate 15. The flow of cleaning liquid from the tank 10 on to the brushes 14 is controlled by a spring- loaded valve 29, operated by a wire 30 actuated by a trigger on a handle 12. The cleaning liquid flows through a pair of rows of holes 39 in the duct 16, each row lying on opposite sides of a rib 23<SP>1</SP>, towards the flared edges 23 of the plate 15 which discharge the cleaning liquid into the upper parts of the brushes 14. The appliance is supported on a roller 13 which may have a resilient surface, e.g. cellular rubber or plastic, or a "hard" surface. The roller 13 may be replaced by 2 or more axially spaced wheels. To ensure the escape of cleaning liquid remaining in the duct 16 when the valve 29 is closed, the duct 16 is connected to atmosphere through a tube 56. Cleaning liquid may be supplied to only one of the rows of brushes 14.
