Abstract

1430989 Floor cleaning apparatus CLARKE-GRAVELY CORP 30 May 1973 25700/73 Heading A4F A portable floor or carpet cleaning apparatus comprises a downwardly open housing 12 rectangular in plan and having a suction nozzle 40 formed between a front-wall 24 and a partition 38, a sprayer 62 for spraying cleaning liquid on to the floor or carpet surface adjacent the nozzle 40, a suction fan F within the housing 12 for drawing used liquid through the nozzle 40 into a receptacle 52 formed by a partition 48, 50, and a pump P for discharging liquid in the receptacle 52 to a drain via tubing 84. Water is supplied to the apparatus via flexible tubing connected to a tubular handle 34 having a control valve 36 and mounted on a control casing 14 extending from the housing 12. The water passes to the nozzle 62 through tubing 68, an electric heater 66, and a mixing unit 72 in which detergent is added. The used liquid receptacle 52 contains a removable channel-shaped filter 96 and a filter 88. An elongated supporting roller 26 facilitates movement of the apparatus when not in use. During use the roller 26 is raised from the floor or carpet as shown to engage the nozzle 40 with the surface to be cleaned. Curved baffles 42, 44, Fig. 2 (not shown) define passages (46) of reducing cross section in the nozzle 40 so that the air and liquid is drawn at high velocity into the receptacle 52. A control switch S Fig. 3 (not shown) for the fan and heater is provided on the end upper wall of the casing 14.
