Abstract

983,493. Floor cleaning machines. HOOVER Ltd. July 3, 1961 [July 11, 1960], No. 24019/61. Heading A4F. A floor cleaning appliance includes means for sucking up liquid through a nozzle 10, a clean detergent liquid container 12 communicating via a passage 34 with the floor, and means for dispensing a defoaming agent 35 into the detergent as it passes through the passage 34, Manual operation of a control rod 27 to open a spring biased valve 26 permits detergent to flow past a cake of defoaming agent 35 located in a recess 32 and thence via the passage 34 through a slit 17 in the nozzle 10. A fan unit 11 sucks liquid from the floor via the slit 17 and tubes 18, 21 to a used detergent separator 13 and thence to a bag 24, and is arranged to be necessarily vented before the opening of the valve 26 thereby to prevent sucking at the nozzle 10 when detergent is being supplied thereto.
