Abstract

1,020,209. Rug scrubbing machine. SUNBEAM CORPORATION. March 18, 1964 [June 25, 1963], No. 11473/64. Heading A4F. A rug scrubbing machine comprises a frame 32 carrying a motor 31 which drives scrubbing brush 24 and fan 34 to circulate cooling air through the motor, wherein the motor and fan housing 23 has an air conduit means 49 to direct cooling air from the motor 31 into a foam generator 37 which is connected to a liquid dispenser (not shown) and has a foam discharge outlet 62 adjacent said scrubbing brush 24. Air drawn in through slots 42 cools the motor then passes to a high pressure air chamber 39 and down through a flexible plastics sleeve 49 and into the venturi mouth 37c of foam generator 37. Detergent flows through a valve controlled orifice in the liquid dispenser 25 (not shown) removably mounted on pivotable handle 21, through a plastics conduit 28 (not shown) into one of two nipples 56, 57 (not shown) formed in a recess in housing 23. From nipple 57 the detergent may be directly disposed on the floor adjacent the brushes 24. When connected to nipple 58 the liquid is led via conduit 59 to the inlet of foam generator 37 through a fluid tight foam material seal 61. The air flow through the venturi causes the detergent to generate a damp foam which is converted to a dry foam on passage through a screen 62 from whence it is deposited adjacent the counter-rotating brushes 24. Screen byepass slots 64 are provided. In a modification (Fig. 10, not shown) a removable combined hood/foam generator attachment is used to form with the housing the high pressure air chamber, air conduit means and foam generator.
