Abstract

1,177,920. Suction cleaners. NATIONAL UNION ELECTRIC CORP. 20 June, 1968 [13 Nov., 1967], No. 29573/68. Heading A4F. The flexible hose 22 of a canister type suction cleaner is stored, when not in use, in an annular chamber 44 formed between the base 46 and the cover 48 of the cleaner housing 24 and surrounding the middle section 52 of the latter. In use air and dirt particles are drawn through the hose 22 by the suction unit 32 into an arcuately disposed filter bag 38 within an intake chamber 50, the air passing through the bag 38 and a filter sheet 40 into a chamber 86 to be discharged through exhaust apertures (89, 90, Fig. 8, not shown). A slide member 91 is adjustable to control a flow of atmospheric air directly into the chamber 50 thereby to regulate the suction in the hose 22. A storage device is provided in the chamber 50 for spare filler bags. The switch 94 controlling the suction unit 32 is actuated by a rocking or carrying handle 95 for the machine. A carrier frame 180 (Fig. 9 not shown) for cleaning tools may be mounted detachably on the top of the cover 48, so that the tools are readily accessible during use of the machine.
