Abstract

955,811. Floor cleaning machines. HOOVER Ltd. June 16, 1960 [June 19, 1959], No. 21245/60. Heading A4F. A floor cleaning machine includes a suction nozzle for withdrawing washing liquid from the floor by an air stream, and means is provided for dispersing a defoaming agent into the mixture of air and liquid in its passage from the suction nozzle to a separator in the machine for separating liquid from air. The machine may be of the kind described in Specifications 928,045 and 928,046 and comprising a combined scrubbing and suction nozzle, connected by a tube to the separator, a fan for applying suction to the nozzle, and a tank for receiving the dirty liquid from the separator. The defoaming agent may be provided in the suction nozzle 10 in the form of a solid cake 33 of a liquid silicone dispersed in a water soluble wax. The cake is arranged adjacent to the suction slit 17, to be dissolved by the incoming liquid, in a compartment formed between the nozzle wall and depending fingers 32, and having a lid 35. In an alternative embodiment the cake of defoaming agent is disposed at the junction of the suction pipe and the separator. Specifications 882,020 and 955,812 also are referred to.
