Abstract
995,005. Electron beam apparatus. W. C. HERAEUS G.m.b.H. April 19, 1962 [April 20, 1961], No. 15307/62. Heading H1D. In an electron beam smelting furnace having one or more electron guns 17, 18 housed in a separately evacuated chamber 15 above the main smelting chamber 1, electron-optical control means for accelerating, focusing and deflecting the beam of each gun are grouped in a cylindrical member 19 removably inserted in the cover member 4 between the two chambers. The diameter of the evacuation conduit 16 is relatively large compared with the diameters of the cylindrical members and the volume of the chamber 15 is large compared with the volume occupied by the electron guns.
