[Also in Divisions G2-G3] Electron beam heating apparatus 1 comprises an anode Z, a main cathode X and an auxiliary cathode Y supplied by a heating unit 5 to produce to a stream of electrons which are accelerated to the cathode X by the voltage applied between the cathodes X, Y from a heating unit 3. The units 3, 5 are automatically controlled to maintain desired operating conditions in the apparatus 1 (see Divisions G2-G3).
