958,733. Electron beam apparatus. INSTITUT FUR AUGEWANDTE PHYSIK DER REINSTSTOFFE DRESDEN. July 17, 1962, No. 27454/62. Heading H1D. One or more electron beams are used for supplementary heating of a metal sample 3 which is heated and levitated by means of an alternating current carrying coil 2. Each electron beam generating chamber is separately evacuated and contains a cathode 5, a Wehnelt electrode 6, an anode diaphragm 7, a magnetic lens 8 and an exit aperture diaphragm 9 for the beam. A magnetic deflection system 10 is provided for directing the beam on to the sample. The metal sample is heated above its melting-point.
