Abstract

1,126,096. Image intensifier tube systems. MACHLETT LABORATORIES Inc. 20 Sept., 1966 [20 Sept., 1965], No.41835/66. Heading H4F. [Also in Division H1] An image intensification system comprises an intensifier tube with an input screen 22 of fluorescent and photo-emissive layers for instance, responsive to an input pattern of visible, X-ray, infra-red or U.V. radiation for example, to provide an electron beam, an output screen 36 comprising a fluorescent layer, and a plurality of electrodes 30, 32, and 34 for focusing the beam on to the output screen to produce an output image, and control means connected to the electrodes for varying the potentials thereon to vary the magnification of the tube, the control means comprising a high voltage field control unit 42 connected between a high voltage power supply and the electrodes, and a low voltage remote control unit 48 electrically connected to the field control unit for controlling the field control unit to control the electrode potential. In the field control unit 42, high voltage triodes are connected as variable reactances with grounded grids, the reactance being varied by controlling the cathode bias and the intensifier grids are resistively connected to the respective anodes.
