994,311. Container closures. WEST CO. April 3, 1962 [April 4, 1961], No. 12678/62. Heading B8T. A capsule closure, intended more especially for pharmaceutical bottles, comprises a stopper 11, which may be of rubber, a cap 17 of sheet material such as aluminium having a central disc 22 and an annular portion 21 detachably connected thereto by bridge parts 30, and a cover 32, preferably of plastics material, overlying and connected to said disc portion and adapted when moved relative to the annular portion to remove the disc portion by fracturing the bridge parts. The bridge parts 30 are connected to annular portion 21 via a downwardly disposed portion 27 which displaces the material of the stopper to form a seal therewith. An extension 34 connects the cover 32 to disc 22 and is preferably fused or sealed thereto. A skirt 17 of the cap is crimped as at 20 to secure the closure to the bottle. The bottle is opened by applying upward pressure at one side to flange 38 of the cover 32 thereby removing the cover and disc 22. The contents are removed by piercing the wall portion 16 of stopper 11 with, for example, the needle of a hypodermic syringe.
