A tamperproof closure for a pharmaceutical bottle comprises an aluminium cap 24, having an annular top portion 33 defining a central opening 32, and a cover member 39 having a depending skirt 42 which engages the opening 32, the end portion of the skirt 42 being turned outwards to form a continuous bead 45 which engages the underside of the top portion 33 so that when the cover 39 is removed the bead 45 is separated from the remainder of the skirt 42. The bead 45 is held against the cap 24 by a stopper 12, the central portion of which may be pierced with a syringe to withdraw the contents. Locking members 40 may be formed on the skirt 42 to prevent accidental displacement of the cover member 39 from the cap 24. The bead 45 acts as a seal once the cover 39 has been removed. In a modification the inner edge of the top 33 may be cut away or indented at spaced points to engage thicker portions or locking members of the skirt 42. In another embodiment the skirt 42 is replaced by three locking fingers which are turned out to lie beneath the top 33 as before. In a further modification the top 33 is provided with circumferentially spaced slots which are engaged by locking fingers of the cover 39, the intermediate portions of the skirt 42 lying flush with the outer surface of the top 33.
