Abstract
994,135. Stamping. GENERAL DYNAMICS CORPORATION. Dec. 4, 1963 [Dec. 7, 1962], No. 47929/63. Heading B3Q. An electromagnetic forming apparatus has a coil assembly comprising a slotted annular core 10 of a conductive material on which is mounted an insulated coil 12, and a generally cylindrical field shaping element 14 of conductive, material having a workpiece receiving aperture 16 and a slot 18, removably disposed within the core and insulated therefrom. The coil assembly is adapted to be clamped upon a forming apparatus by means of a bracket 66 providing both electrical connections for feeding heavy current pulses to the coil 12 which is wrapped with plastic impregnated fibre glass 44 and covered with a coating of resin 46. Coil 12 is made of copper or beryllium copper and contains an inner tube 28 for circulating cooling water through the coil via coupling 32. Core 10 and shaping element 14 are made of copper or beryllium copper and insulated from each other by a wrapping 20 of plastic impregnated fibre glass. The element 14 is retained within the core by rings 60, 62. Specification 962,883 is referred to.
