Abstract

1,216,376. Arc welding electrode holders. H. EDEN. 15 May, 1969, No. 9377/68. Heading H5H. A welding gun including a metal support rod 1, on the end of which is fixed a metal holder 2 for a weld rod electrode 6, is characterized by an inductance arrangement comprising a first and a second coil 7, 10, of insulated wire wound on the support rod 1, an end 8, 11 of each coil being connected to the rod 1 and the other ends 9, 12, being connected together to the input lead 14 from the current source 22. The inductance arrangement presumably aids arc stability. Coil 7 is wound in two layers. The coils 7, 10 are housed in a gun-shaped, ventilated casing 18 of moulded glass fibre impregnated with epoxy resin. Rod 1 and holder 2 are of brass, and the weld rod 6 is held in bore 4 of holder 2 by a clamping screw 5. An aluminium splatter disc 20 protects the gun during welding. The coils 7, 10, are wound between rubber bushes 13 mounted on the rod 1. The source 22 is D.C., but may be A.C.
