Abstract
610,800. Wire and ribbon resistances; mounting terminals. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Aug. 13, 1946, No. 24003. Convention date, Nov. 18, 1942. [Classes 37 and 38 (i)] In order that small adjustments in the value of the resistance element may be effected at least one of the terminal members on a rodshaped wire or ribbon wound resistor is in two parts, located side by side along the resistor core, and one of which is for connection to the external lead and the other, adjacent the resistance element and arranged for connection thereto, so formed that it can be connected to the end of the resistance element throughout the periphery of the resistor core. As shown, a terminal band 2 is formed with an integral strap 4 which encircles the core 1 in the manner of an open winding so that the end of the resistance wire 5 may be secured under the strap 4 at any point around the core 1; preferably the winding direction of the strap 4 is opposite to that of the resistance wire 5. The terminal band 2 may comprise more than one integral strap, for example, three, each of which spans a third of the core 1 or Fig. 8 (not shown) two straps, each of which is united to the band at the same point. In other constructions, a resilient wire ringing the core 1 is welded to a terminal band, Fig. 6 (not shown), or clamped in position by means of a bolt inserted through the core 1, Fig. 7 (no shown). The terminal band 2 may be so formed as to completely shroud the end of the resistor core, Fig. 5 (not shown). In a further embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), a piece of foil is clamped by a terminal band around the core 1. The external lead may be connected to a soldering tag integral with a terminal band, Fig. 2 (not shown).
