Abstract
758,473. Welding by pressure; soldering. SVENSKA AKTIEBOLAGET GASACCUMULATOR. April 9, 1954 [April 11, 1953; March 9, 1954], No. 10511/54. Class 83 (4). A stud &c. for electric arc-welding or soldering is provided with a fuse wire at its end remote from the end to be welded or soldered to form a connection between the stud &c. and the holder of an electrical welding gun. A pin for soldering having a point 1, Fig. 1, of solder metal with flux therein and a brass, copper or steel body 1b has a coiled copper, aluminium or iron fuse wire 3 enclosed in a non-conducting e.g. plastic, glass, porcelain, cardboard, fibre, &c. sleeve 2, with a cap 3a thereon to compress the wire 3, which fits into the chuck 4 of a stud-welding gun. After the arc between the pin and the work has been established the wire fuses to discontinue supply to the pin. After soldering, the sleeve 2 and the body part above a groove 5 thereon are removed. In a modification a fuse wire 7, Fig. 2, is attached at one end to the pin and the other end rests on an insulating support 8 and an insulating ring 10 which may be on the pin or gun chuck 9 surrounds the wire. A welding stud has a threaded non-conducting extension on which a fuse wire is wound, the wire being attached at one end to the'pin and overlying the extension at the other. A steel-welding pin with a flux filled end has a straight copper, iron or aluminium fuse wire welded axially to the other end and a steel, brass or copper pin 18, Fig. 6, with flux-filled solder metal 19 at one end has a fuse wire 17 with a wavy end attached to the other end. A bolt with flux-filled solder metal on the bolt head has a straight axial fuse wire at the shank end, the fuse wire having a thickened end remote from the bolt. Specification 710,722 is referred to.
