Abstract

847,155. Welding by pressure. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Jan. 1, 1958 [Jan. 9, 1957], No. 70/58. Class 83 (4). A metal wire 6 is welded to a metal body 5 of lower melting-point by forming a hole 7 in the body 5 of diameter not greater than that of an end of the wire 6, connecting a potential between the wire 6 and the body 5 bringing the end of wire 5 into contact with the edge of the hole 7 so that the wire 5 and the edge of the hole 7 are resistance heated and when the edge of the hole 7 fuses inserting the wire 6. A direct or alternating current source is connected to clamps 3, 4 held manually and on a spring mounting 9 respectively. The wire 6 and the body 5 are of copper and aluminium, respectively, and are welded in an inert or slightly reducing atmosphere. The body 5 and the protective gas may be preheated. A flux can be used, or an alloying agent such as tin.
