993,787. Propelling, manoeuvring and stabilizing ships with jets. ELLIOT BROS. (LONDON) Ltd. Oct. 26, 1962 [Oct. 27, 1961], No. 38496/61. Headings B7M and B7V. A water jet apparatus comprising a propulsion means P drawing in water through inlets F, F1 at the bows (for movement ahead or through inlets E, E1 when the ship is reversing) and discharging through nozzles A, B, C, D, A1, B1, C1, D1 under control of valves N, H, N1, H1 according to whether it is required to propel the ships ahead, astern or sideways, has at least one vane V in the exit end of at least one nozzle mounted for movement about a horizontal axis S so that the jet of water being discharged from said nozzle exit may be directed upwards or downwards to provide for a degree of stabilization against roll of the ship.
