Abstract

1,267,946. Ship propulsion systems. M.K.E. CZERNIAK. 21 Oct., 1970 [24 Oct., 1969], No. 52101/69. Headings B7M and B7V. A water jet propelled ship has one or more flared entry ducts extending from bow to stern and provided with vertically movable roof sections 3 which are adjustable by hydropneumatic jacks 4 to vary the effective crosssection of the downstream part of the duct which is provided with propellers 6 or combustible gas jets (not shown). Pivoting members 16, 17 are provided to deflect the jet to steer the boat. The duct roof and hull bottom are provided with ribs 8, and compressed air can be injected from nozzles 9 to reduce the skin friction. The vessel has an inflatable buoyancy member 14.
