992, 934. Measuring resistance; electric meters. NEWPORT INSTRUMENT (SCIENTIFIC & MOBILE) Ltd. Aug. 17, 1961 [May 20, 1960], No. 17934/60. Headings G1Q and G1U. [Also in Division H2] In a resistance measuring arrangement which provides a facility for measuring high resistance, an oscillator/rectifier arrangement is included (comprising transistors TR2, TR3 in push pull, transformer T and diodes REC) for generating a high test potential from a low voltage power source BT, the low voltage input to the oscillator being applied by way of a voltage regulating circuit incorporating a transistor TR1. The input to this transistor may be taken from across a Zener diode D1. Facilities are provided for measuring either very high, intermediate or very low resistance across the test terminals TT by setting the range control switch, consisting of four ganged sections SR1-4, appropriately. This control arranges that the supplies for the intermediate and low resistance measurements are taken via the potentiometer networks R4, R5 and R6, R7 respectively from the voltage regulating circuit. The measurement is made using the microammeter M, which is arranged to be in series with the supplies for high and intermediate measurements, but in shunt for the low resistance measurement. The resistor R8 and the Zener diode D2 are connected across the meter to improve the scale shaping thereof. The neon tube N indicates when the high test voltage is present.
