Goods handling equipment for stockpiling and like warehouse operation has a main carriage movable on rails and a subsidiary carriage movable independently of, as well as with, the main carriage which latter carries a rotatable and traversable loading appliance. A main carriage 4, Fig. 1, moves as by an electric motor on rails 4a, 4b on racks in a main gangway and a subsidiary carriage 5 can be moved as by an electric motor on rails 45a, 45b on the main carriage and on to rails such as 25a, 25b along intersecting gangways. A driver's seat 5f is supported by a member 5h from the carriage 5. A loading appliance 6 which can be raised or lowered by a piston and cylinder 6h, 6g, Fig. 2, has lifting forks 6d for depositing pallets on ledges S and can be rotated about a crab 7 which can be traversed on tracks 5g of the subsidiary carriage 5. The crab 7 has a plate 61b rotatable on an annulus of rollers 61a. Fig. 4, by an hydraulic actuator 61c which acts on chains 61m to rotate a shaft 61l on which is an entraining arm 61d which engages a pin 610 to effect rotation only when the crab is in the central position.
