Abstract

[Also in Division A4] In an automatic warehouse, Fig. 1, the bottoms of the storage units 3 and of the loading and unloading tables 1, 2 comprise bars 9 which are arranged with their bearing surfaces lying on a curve and the stacker vehicle 4 has lifting forks provided with similarly arranged tines which pass between the bars 9 for loading and unloading. Vertical side shields 11 are provided on the tables, storage units and stacker vehicle to prevent goods being dislodged sideways. The stacker vehicle is driven along rails 7, Fig. 2, by an electric motor 24 and the forks are raised and projected respectively by motors 29, 34. The stacker vehicle is controlled by punched cards inserted into a programming device 8, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 shows mechanism for accurately arresting the stacker opposite a desired location. When an electromagnet 13 is operated a pawl 17 is lowered to engage a stop 23 thus causing a slide 19 with a cam 20 to be displaced. This operates a limit switch 22 to stop the drive motor and energize the brake. As the stacker continues to move slowly due to inertia, the slide engages a rigid stop 18 which stops the stacker in the desired position.
