Abstract
992,106. Road material machines. J. H. GRUNEWALD. March 4, 1964, No. 9058/64. Heading E1T. [Also in Division B2] In a machine for bituminizing road-making material comprising a screening assembly 12 feeding aggregate 21 into separator bins 13 according to grain size for movement to a mixer 17 where bitumen is applied, the aggregate is electrostatically charged before the mixer and the bitumen has a charge of opposite polarity. The aggregate 21 is passed over a series of vibrated screens 12a, 12b, 12c, to bins or hoppers 13 having fluid pressure operated rams 13a operating bottom gates discharging to the bins 23 with ram operated gates 14. The bins 23 have a weighing device 15 and discharge to a bucket 16 movable on rails 25 to feed a twin shaft pug mill 17. Bitumen is sprayed from a nozzle 19 to coat the aggregate which is fed to a bucket 16a for use or storage. A high voltage D.C. generator 28 has one pole 31 connected to a charging ring placed below the nozzle 19; the other pole 27 being connected to the screening apparatus X, charging rings X1 - - X4 below the first bin gates, charging rings X5, X6 below the second bin gates 14, the bucket 16 or a charging ring X7 below the bucket discharge. More than one connection may be made to the pole 27 to maintain the electrostatic charge.
