Abstract
741,403. Mixing appliances. NAUTA, J. E. Oct. 16, 1953 [Oct. 18, 1952], No. 28628/53. Class 86. A method for grinding and mixing different materials, e.g. cereals consists in feeding alternately at least two mixers with amounts of the starting materials in the desired proportions; mixing said amounts in said mixers to a practically homogeneous mixture; feeding the whole of the contents of the mixer in which the mixture has obtained the desired homogeneous condition into grinding apparatus; feeding a continuous stream of material from the grinding apparatus into a final mixing plant wherein a considerable amount of ground material is collected and while so collected is mixed, and delivering the ground material mixed in the final mixing plant. In Fig. 1 unground starting materials from containers 1A, 1B, 1C, proportioned by weighing devices 2A, 2B, 2C, are fed into the mixer 8B whilst a charge already mixed in the mixer 8A is being fed into a hammer mill 14, and vice versa, the alternate charging and discharging of the mixers 8A, 8B being controlled by means of valves 7A, 12A, 12B. A continuous stream of ground material from the hammer mill 14 passes into a final mixer 16 having a discharge valve 17 which is controlled by means responsive to the level of material in the mixer 16 so that a continuous stream of mixed materials is discharged at such a rate as to maintain the level of materials in the mixer 16 near its upper end. The control means include a moving feeler 23 having an angle of tilt responsive to the level of material, connected to a valve in an oil pressure system, Fig. 2 (not shown), by which the valve 17 is raised or lowered. The feeler 23 may alternatively control electrically operated discharge means, such as a short conveyer screw, or may operate the switch of the driving motor of the mixer. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown), three mixers are charged and discharged consecutively so as to feed a continuous stream of mixed materials into a pair of grinding machines from which a continuous stream of ground materials is pneumatically conveyed to a pair of final mixers, of which one receives and mixes the ground material whilst the other is being discharged, and vice versa.
