Abstract

[Also in Division B2] A screening and mixing machine A, Fig. 1 for road building materials comprises a mixer tower 10 provided with a vibratory screen arrangement including one or more screens 1a, 1b, 1c which serve to separate material according to its grain size and feed it into silos 4, at least one of the screens being provided with a supplementary screen 6, Fig. 2, which is shiftable between operative and inoperative positions. The screens are supported in a box 23 which is suspended by resilient elements 16 and vibrated by an eccentric 3 driven by a motor 2. The supplementary screens are of different mesh sizes and each is formed by two parts 6a, 6b which are pivotable from a vertical position to an operative position where they are hooked together and secured by eccentric means 8a. The grain size can be selected by lowering the appropriate supplementary screens into position. The material is fed to the screens by a bucket elevator B and graded by the screens into four silos 4. It is then metered through gates 18 into a two-compartment hopper 19 having gates 20 for controlling the discharge into a loading slip 21 which is arranged to deliver the material into a pug mill where, if desired, it is mixed with bitumen. In an alternative construction, the pug mill can be arranged in place of the hopper 19 and bitumen applied before passing to the skip.
