992,038. Container closures. K. H. BROSS, and F. T. JOHMANN. May 3, 1962 [June 9, 1961], No. 17044/62. Heading B8T. The discharge member 1a of a collapsible tube or a bottle &c. has a flexible portion 5a so that the discharge opening 15a can be closed by forcing the member 1a downwardly relative to a valve member 9a until a conical portion 18a of the valve member closes the opening 15a, there being snap locking elements 10a, 11a to retain the parts in either the closed or the open position. As shown the flexible portion is of bellows form and the valve member is fixed to the bottle &c. by a flange 6a. The discharge member may be fixed to the bottle &c. and the valve member 9 movable e.g. by making the flange 6a flexible. Many different embodiments are described, e.g. the bellows may be twistable and held in the open and closed position by bayonet type members. The valve stem may be secured in a flexible bottom of a container and may be hollow and moulded in one with the container or stopper. The locking means may be frictional. For a drop delivering container the bellows is expanded to open the valve by depressing the flexible bottom of the inverted container.
