Abstract

991, 239. Sewing machines. UNION SPECIAL MASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H. April 17, 1964 [April 18, 1963], No. 15927/64. Heading D1G. A sewing machine presser foot comprises a chaining finger which is made of spring plate and is pivoted to the end of the presser foot remote from the feed-in end, and which is biased by a helical spring located substantially midway between the pivot of the chaining finger and the free end thereof. The base portion 2 of a sewing machine presser foot is pivoted at 3 to the shank portion 1. A chaining finger 5, made from spring plate, is formed at its rear end with a bearing bar 6 embracing a pivot pin 4 located at the rear end of base 2. Finger 5 is aligned with a groove 7 formed in the undersurface of base 2, and has at its front end a hooked portion 8 which extends upwardly through the needle aperture 9 in base 2. A helical spring 11 bears downwardly on finger 5 midway between its ends. The radius of bar 6 is greater than the radius of pin 4 by an amount substantially equal to the thickness of the thread chain, and the distance between the axis of bar 6 and the lower surface of finger 5 is equal to the distance between the axis of pin 4 and the lower surface of base 2.
