Class 44 [Also in Group VII] A quick release device for the presser mechanism of a sewing machine comprises a bush 16 secured in the machine head and bored to receive a sleeve 7 mounted for sliding movement therein, the sleeve slidingly receiving the upper end of the presser bar 5 and forming an abutment for the upper end of the presser bar spring 9. The sleeve is normally locked in the desired position by a U-spring 18 anchored at one end to the bush by a pin 19 and engaging one of the external grooves 25 on the sleeve. The other end of the U- spring is engaged by a screw 23 mounted in a cap 24 screwed loosely on the bush. The cap may be turned to open the U-spring and unlock the sleeve. A circlip 27 limits upward movement of the sleeve.
