Abstract

990,848. Crossheads. GOTOVEKEN A.B. Nov. 27, 1963, No. 46906/63. Heading F2T. A crosshead pin for an internal combustion engine comprises a cast iron tubular portion 1 and a core member 2 which is secured to the central part of the portion 1 by a shrink fit and has passages for coolant therein. The pin is secured to a guide shoe arm 3 attached to the piston-rod 4 and is journalled in a bearing 6 of the connecting-rod 5. Cooling oil supplied through an arm 7 from a telescopic pipe (not shown) flows through passages 9 to cool the pin. The oil also passes through passages 10 in the pin and a conduit 11 in the piston-rod to the piston whence it returns through pipe 12, passage 13 and pipe 14 to a tubular discharge arm 15. The bearing surface of the pin, which may be chromium plated, has longitudinal oil grooves 16 supplied with oil through radial bores 17.
