[Also in Division H2] To reduce the energy consumption and heating time of a switch operated by the longitudinal expansion of a rod-like element (see Division H2) the element comprises a strut of thin material so that it has sufficient electrical resistance to be heated by current passing through it and, to enable it to provide adequate thrust without bending, it has a buckling-resistant cross-section such as one of the examples shown in Fig. 3.
