Abstract

987,492. Bungs for barrels; stoppers. ROBINSON BROS. CORK GROWERS Ltd. Feb. 15, 1962, [March 11, 1961], No. 8993/61. Heading B8T. A bung for a barrel is made of a resilient plastics material, e.g. polythene, and is annular with an end wall 11 which is weakened along a circular path 13 aligned with the bore 10 of the bung. The weakened path is interrupted in one or more places by a rib or buttress 14, one of which acts as a hinge between the wall 11 and the bung when a draw-off tap is driven into the bore, and prevents the wall being completely detached and falling into the barrel interior. The bung may comprise two annular walls connected by radial ribs 15.
