Abstract
779,026. Tap-hole bushes. GASKELL & CHAMBERS, Ltd. Jan. 18, 1956 [Feb. 25, 1955], No. 5667 /5:5. Class 21. The bush comprises a metal sleeve 4, Fig. 3, secured within a hole in a container 5 and having an inwardly directed flange 4a at its inner end, a wooden bush 6 in the sleeve 4 having a bore tapering inwardly from the outer end of the bush, means for preventing rotation of the bush 6 relative to the sleeve 4, and a screw-threaded annular member 8 engaging a screw-threaded portion of the outer end of the sleeve 4 to hold the bush 6 against the flange 4a which has an inclined face on the side presented to the bush so that the corner of the flange will bite into the bush to form a seal. When a portion of a tap or other dispensing apparatus is forced into the outer end of the bore a cork or bung 7 in the bore is forced into the container 5. The means for preventing relative rotation may be complementary flats on the interior of the sleeve 4 and on the exterior of the bush 6 as illustrated in Fig. 2. A dust cover 9 of cardboard or other readily breakable material may be clamped between the member 8 and the bush 6.
