987,275. Adhesive dressings. JOHNSON & JOHNSON. Oct. 5, 1962 [Oct. 6, 1961], No. 37790/62. Heading A5R. An adhesive dressing comprises a fibrous layer with a discontinuous air-pervious adhesive on one face and an air-pervious synthetic film layer on the other. The fibrous layer 13 may be woven or non-woven and the film backing 11 has numerous small openings over its entire area, preferably of microporous size, i.e. of less than 1 micron in diameter, so that air-borne bacteria cannot pass through it. The open areas 14 in the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, however, are sufficiently large not to become closed by flow of the adhesive during handling and storage of the tape. It is therefore preferred to apply closely spaced lines of adhesive across the surface. In a modified form a film layer, previously bonded to a fibrous layer, is perforated by heated pins of between 0À003 and 0À008 inch diameter. Specification 819,635 is referred to.
