Abstract

1304994 Disposable diaper PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 19 April 1971 [18 March 1970] 24568/71 Heading A3V A diaper 10, of which one corner is shown, comprises an absorbent core 11, e.g, of cellulosic fluff, a backing sheet 12, e.g. of waterimpervious plastics or non-woven fabric, attached to one side of the core and folded over at the edge of the core 14 making a margin 13, a pressure sensitive tape fastener 16, e.g. of paper or polyethylene backed tape, secured at one end 17 to the backing sheet 12 the other end 18 being releasably attached to the backing sheet at the margin 13, and a releasable liner 19 of polyethylene or paper or other suitable material interposed between the releasable end 18 of the tape and fastener 16 and the backing sheet 12, the release liner being removable to expose an adhesive area 20 on the backing sheet which is used to retain the diaper, when soiled, in a rolled or folded condition. The surface 21 of the release liner 19 is silicone treated so that it has minimal adhesive attachment to the end 18 of the tape fastener 16, and the end 18 of the fastener 16 is held in position with respect to the release liner by means of small holes therein (not shown) which result in the adhesive on the end 18 being directly adhered to the backing sheet 12 in the area around the holes. In use the end 18 is peeled away from the release liner 19 and the tape fastener 16 used to secure the diaper on the wearer. An alternative embodiment provides for the pressure sensitive adhesive 20 to be retained on the release liner 19 so that the liner itself may be used for maintaining the soiled diaper in a rolled or folded state.
