1304993 Diapers PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 19 April 1971 [19 Feb 1970] 22196/71 Heading A3V A disposable diaper comprises an absorbent core 11, e.g. of cellulosic fluff, a water impervious plastics backing sheet 12, e.g. of polyethylene film, on one side of the core, the backing sheet being folded over at 14 forming a margin 13 covering the other side of the core to the edge 15 of the sheet 12, a pressure sensitive tape fastener 16, e.g. a paper or a polyethylene backed tape which may or may not be reinforced, having an attached end 17 directly secured and strongly adhered to the backing sheet 12 and a releasable end 18, a release liner 19, e.g. of polyethylene or paper, interposed between the backing sheet 12 and the releasable end 18 and strongly adhered to the backing sheet 12, the surface 20 of the release liner being silicone treated so that it has minimal adhesive attachment to the releasable end 18, and a tape 21, e.g. of polyester film, treated with an adhesive that is strongly adherent to the surface 20 of the release liner, the tape 21 being secured also to the releasable end 18 to hold the releasable end in superposed relationship with the release liner 19. Pressure sensitive tape fasteners 16 are provided at two corners of the diaper and, in use, the tab end 22 between the end 23 of the tape 16 and the tape 21 is peeled away from the release liner and then the tab end 22 is pulled such that it separates from the tape 21 so that the whole of the releasable end 18 can be peeled away and used as a fastener to join adjoining corners of the diaper. The securement means holding the releasable end 18 in superposed relation to the release liner 19 may alternatively comprise .at least one aperture in the release liner or notches in the sides of the release liner, the portions of the releasable end 18 which overlie the apertures or notches thus being directly secured to the backing sheet, or a release liner having an area which is not silicone treated such that the portion of the releasable end overlying this area is strongly adhered to the release liner. The tape fastener 16 may also be provided with a line of weakening, e.g. perforations, intermediate the attached end 17 and the releasable end 18, such that after the tape fastener has been used to secure the diaper on a wearer and the diaper has become soiled the diaper may be readily removed by tearing the tape fasteners along the line of weakening.
